Jon Sherwood has over twenty years of physical therapy and athletic training experience. His interest in Sports Medicine began as a student athlete at the University of California, Berkeley. Jon played 5 years as an offensive tackle for the Golden Bears while completing his undergraduate degree in Physical Education. After graduating in 1989, Jon went on to graduate school earning a Masters degree in Exercise Physiology (MA) from California State University, Chico. He then completed a Masters in Physical Therapy (MSPT) from Boston University in 1993. After working briefly in Wyoming, he moved to Billings, Montana where he earned his Athletic Training Certification (ATC) while serving as a trainer for the Billings Bulls Junior-A Hockey Team and the Billings Rimrockers IBA Basketball Team. Jon futhered his sports medicine training through internships in the Sports Medicine Department at the University of California, Berkeley.

In May of 2000, Jon returned to Northern California to join the staff of Sierra Orthopedic and Athletic Rehabilitation, and continued to pursue advanced physical therapy education. He has completed over 30 postgraduate continuing education courses including the Folsom Year Long Orthopedic Manual Therapy, and the Grass Valley Orthopedic Year Long Manual Therapy Program. Jon is also a certified ASTYM™ provider.

In 2006 Jon earned designation as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) through the American Physical Therapy Association. He has earned recognition as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association as well as Performance Enhancement Specialist (NASM-PES) from the National Academy of Sports Medicine. During 2004 and 2005, Jon served as Physical Therapy Program Director at California Sports and Orthopedic Institute, Inc. in Berkeley, California.

Currently, Jon provides rehabilitation consultations for Cal Athletics, California State University of Sacramento (CSUS) Tennis, St. Mary's College Sports Medicine Department and assists with training program development for multiple community based training organizations, including Sac Fit Running Club and Total Intensity Sports Triathlon Club. He currently works as the rehab director for the CA Sports & Orthopaedic Institute in Orinda, CA.

Jon is active in skiing, hiking, backpacking, running, road and mountain biking. He has completed multiple marathon & triathlon events, including the 'Tour of CA Elks Death Ride', the Ironman Couredalene 140.6, and the American River 50 mile Endurance Run. His current goal is to complete the Western States 100 mile Endurance Run in under 24 hours.
